WELCOME TO THE FESTIVAL

The 10th London Turkish Film Festival once again provides London's Turkish speaking community and cinema-goers in general with a chance to see an exciting selection of the best new Turkish feature films, documentaries and shorts. To mark the festival's tenth anniversary we are proud to present twelve classic Turkish films including a six film tribute to the distinguished director Atif Yilmaz.

This year's festival includes: Zeki Demirkubuz's FATE and CONFESSION, the first two films of Zeki Demirkubuz's critically acclaimed Tales About Darkness trilogy - in FATE, customs office worker Musa goes to extreme lengths to avoid making decisions about his life, and in CONFESSION, businessman Harun tries to ignore his wife's infidelity; Dervis Zaim's THE ELEPHANTS AND THE GRASS, intertwining stories create a fascinating and enthralling portrait of Turkey during the last 15 years; Handan Ipekçi's HEJAR, a controversial and touching story of the friendship of a retired judge and a five-year-old Kurdish girl; Tayfun Pirselimoglu's INNOWHERELAND, the story of a widow's attempts to find her politically active son who has disappeared; Hakan Sahin's MIRROR, a man tormented by the memory of the accidental drowning of his brother goes to live in Canada and has an unexpected confrontation with death; Ümit Ünal's 9, a police investigation following the murder of a homeless girl in a poor Istanbul district reveals the secret history of the neighbourhood; Erdal Murat Aktas' THE RUNAWAY MUMMY, an energetic and charming Hollywood-style caper comedy set in Egypt and Turkey and a big box office hit; Semir Aslanyürek's THE WATERFALL, in a small town in south-east Turkey things come to a head between the community's political factions when the local waterfall is demolished to make way for a factory.

The retrospective includes: two films by Ömer Kavur A BROKEN LOVE STORY and DESPARATE ROAD, Memduh Ün's THE BROKEN POTS, Yilmaz Guney's HOPE, L.
