Movie dynamite as two women hit the road on a journey of self-discovery and a meeting with the young Brad Pitt. With an uncompromising, brilliantly idiosyncratic script and great performances from Sarandon and Davis, this is the classic American road movie turned upside down. The finale remains as moving and controversial as it was thirty years ago.

THE FLY 1958 (PG) 11.30pm
(US 1958) dir. Kurt Neumann. 92m. Digital.
Vincent Price, Patricia Owens, Herbert Marshall, David Hedison.
A brilliant scientist becomes obsessed with perfecting a device that can transmit matter from one location to another. But when he uses himself as a human guinea pig, an ordinary housefly makes the journey with him... It's a chilling story of a man fighting to retain his humanity, and who better to play it for all its worth than the legendary Vincent Price.
+ THE FLY 1986 (18)
(US 1986) dir. David Cronenberg 96m. Digital.
Jeff Goldblum, Geena Davis, John Getz.
Cronenberg's loose reworking puts the emphasis on the science behind the theory of the original mind over matter nightmare and makes the terror more graphically real. The great Jeff Goldblum is now the scientist who watches helplessly as he is transformed step by step into a living, grotesque mutant – incredibly agile, super strong and driven by insane appetites he cannot control.

The two are on the run from the Nazis, and have come to the American-owned nightspot to lie low. Little does Ilsa know that the cafe is run by Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart), the one true love of her life. PRECIOUS: BASED ON THE NOVEL PUSH BY SAPPHIRE (15) 11.30pm
(US 2009) dir. Lee Daniels 110m. Digital.
Gabourey 'Gabby' Sidibe, Mo'Nique, Paula Patton, Mariah Carey, Sherri Shepherd, Lenny Kravitz.
Adapted from the work of one-time Harlem teacher and poet Sapphire, this is the story of Claireece "Precious" Jones, played by Gabby Sidibe in a heartbreaking, award-winning debut performance. An overweight teenager from Harlem, Precious daydreams of escaping her never-ending circle of abuse, suffering her mother Mary's (a frighteningly convincing Mo'Nique) daily routine of oppression and cruelty. Pregnant for the second time, she finds support in the form of teacher Ms Rain and social worker Ms Wiess. This element of hope from these two women who want better for her underpins Precious's heartrending journey. A courageous and uncompromising film that looks set to sweep the board throughout the 2010 awards season. Check out the trailer at: http://www.weareallprecious.com/
N.B. PRECIOUS will also be the Rio's main feature from Friday 5 February for one week.

After 15 years work on the project by Stanley Kubrick, Spielberg picked up an ambitious realisation of a futuristic fairy tale that questions the very nature of that which we call life... David is one of these robots, an artificial child yearning to become human to win back the love of the adoptive mother who abandoned him.
