The Rio’s monthly Classic Matinees take place on the first or second Wednesday of the month. There is an interval for every film, and extra seating is provided in the foyer. We are delighted that thanks to funding from the Bridge House Trust we are able to offer free admission. We are also able to offer free tea and cake! Please come along and enjoy a film and a chat!
These screenings are also open to everyone else at normal weekday matinee ticket prices. |

BRIDESHEAD REVISITED (12A)
(US 2008) dir. Julian Jarrold 133m.
Matthew Goode, Hayley Atwell, Ben Whishaw.
Based on Evelyn Waugh's 1945 classic British novel which follows the experiences of Captain Charles Ryder who is stationed at Brideshead Castle during World War II, and his involvement with the owners of the estate: the aristocratic Flyte family. Elegantly acted by a superb cast, Brideshead Revisited is a poignant story of forbidden love and the loss of innocence.

NOTORIOUS (U)
(US 1946) dir. Alfred Hitchcock 101m.
Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman, Claude Rains, Louis Calhern, Reinhold Schunzel, Moroni Olsen.
The Master of Suspense at his multi-layered best with a clash of love and duty as Bergman, daughter of a convicted spy, is coerced into a little post-war espionage in South America by agent Cary Grant. With some classic set pieces, this is one of Hitchcock's greatest, and most delightful, pieces of pure cinema.
