The Rio’s monthly Classic Matinees take place on the first or second Wednesday of the month. There is an interval for every film, and extra seating is provided in the foyer. We are delighted that thanks to funding from the Bridge House Trust we are able to offer free admission. We are also able to offer free tea and cake! Please come along and enjoy a film and a chat!

Our Classic Matinee tribute to the late Cyd Charisse is one of Minnelli's greatest musicals. Washed-up Hollywood star Tony Hunter's (Astaire) efforts at a comeback show are marred by the unlikely pairing of himself with acclaimed ballerina Gabrielle (Charisse). But misgivings give way to magic in this wonderfully enchanting classic musical, the highlight of which remains Charisse and Astaire's hypnotic dance duet 'Dancing in the Dark'.
