Innocent young lovers Brad and Janet are stranded when their car breaks down, so they are forced to seek refuge in the castle of the bizarre Dr. Frankenfurter, who is having a gathering of some kind... What ensues is an unforgettable night of comedy, carnality, horror and good old rock 'n' roll in this staggeringly kitsch classic.

SHUT UP AND SING – DIXIE CHICKS (15)
(US 2006) dirs. Barbara Kopple & Cecilia Peck 92m. Documentary.
Life in Bush’s America gets a blunt, honest telling in this documentary. In 2003, the US female country band, The Dixie Chicks, are at the top of their game. Until Natalie Maines, the lead singer, set off a storm at the start of the Iraq War in 2003 when she told a London audience, "We're ashamed that the president of the United States is from Texas." What followed was a concerted right-wing effort to kill their radio play and concert appearances. This film follows the band for three years focusing on them as wives, mothers and advocates of free speech. |

Middle-aged schoolteacher Adam is a recovering alcoholic and embarks on re-establishing a relationship with his son, Sylwester, by listening to the latter's discussions about their lives. Adam is shocked to discover that they both have a different view of their lives, with Adam remembering only the good moments but Sylwester recollecting the depressive impact of his father's alcoholism and his fear of becoming the same one day. The son’s confessions cause the father to reflect back on the saddest and most tragic episodes, which, ironically, he himself as a child experienced and forswore for his progeny. |

RAGING BULL (18)
(US 1980) Dir. Martin Scorsese 129m. Digital.
Robert De Niro, Cathy Moriarty, Joe Pesci
De Niro gives an amazing performance as Jake La Motta, a boxer whose psychological and sexual complexities erupt into violence both in and out of the ring. Joe Pesci and Cathy Moriarty are unforgettable as the brother who falls prey to Jake's mounting paranoia and jealousy and the fifteen-year-old girl who becomes his most prized trophy. WITHNAIL & I (15)
(UK 1987) dir Bruce Robinson 107m. Digital.
Richard E Grant, Paul McGann, Richard Griffiths, Ralph Brown, Michael Elphick.
This classic British comedy details the misadventures of two 'resting' actors in 1969: the flamboyant and alcoholic Withnail and 'I', his more level-headed friend and the movie's narrator. Ailing and seemingly perpetually unemployed, they decide to take a holiday in the countryside, securing a country cottage belonging to Uncle Monty… WITHNAIL & I is a cult comedy classic. Yet for all the glorious bad behaviour and gleeful antics, it's profoundly melancholic; the ending, one of the most moving ever seared into celluloid. |
