SOPHIE SCHOLL: THE FINAL DAYS (PG)

(Germany 2005) Dir. Mac Rothemund 117m. German with English subtitles.

Suitable for: GCSE, AS/A2: Modern Languages, English, Film & Media, Citizenship, PSHE, History, Politics

The true story of one young woman who stood up to the Nazis.
Munich, 1943: 21-year old Sophie Scholl and her brother Hans are members of the "Weiße Rose" (White Rose), a resistance group against the Nazi regime. When the siblings put out fliers calling for democracy and social justice at the university, they were caught and handed over to the Gestapo. During their questioning, Sophie stood up for her beliefs while trying to protect her friends. However she, Hans and their friend Christoph Probst were found guilty of high treason, and executed by guillotine just a few hours later. A powerful film, wonderfully acted, about courage and faith in your beliefs under exceptional circumstances.
